In the 2010 National Security Strategy articulated by the Barack Obama administration, prosperity is identified as the second of four U.S. national interests. Specifically, the United States seeks a strong, innovative, and growing economy. Focusing on innovative, as it relates to economic security, the term economic prosperity is probably more appropriate. Innovation is appealing intellectually and psychically. Despite 32 years in the Intelligence Community, I have come to realize that my cognitive orientation is essentially a progressive one.
