The Great Patriotic War and the Victory over fascism are everlasting themes to which in this issue are dedicated paintings and war lyrics by the veteran of the war LEONID RABICHEV and also poems by OLEG KHLEBNIKOV, poet of another generation, born ten years after the Victory, our regular author who became this year’s laureate of the New Pushkin Prize.
LEV TIMOFEEV. Evangelidi Palimpsest. This word involuntary comes into one’s mind while reading the novel. In bygone days they named so a manuscript written on the parchment which had already been used. Sometimes the old letters showed through the new ones. Later it became usual to do so with frescoes, icons and paintings. Until now there is no pursuit more fascinating for a restorer than taking layer by layer off to reach the initial image. In the same way the reader of this novel step by step will be discovering the source of the mystical events that happened to the author and characters of the manuscript discovered in a burnt down house of a neglected village.
