Galen’s biobibliographic treatises
as a unification project of medical education

Summary: The Biobibliographic treatise of Galen of Pergamon On the order of my own books (De ordine librorum propriorum) is a unique author's catalogue or guidebook to his own writings with autobiographical notes. The treatise is dedicated to the question how to read Galen’s corpus, and also represents a first attempt in the history of Western science to unify medical education and to produce a unified system of the medical knowledge. In her paper the author discusses the question of the originality of genre of this literary document, the problem of the attribution of Galen’s writings, and the situation on the publishing market in the 2-nd cent. BC. On the other hand, the author examines a system of medical education proposed by Galen and scrutinizes the question how to overcome the differences between different medical schools of his time. The first Russian translation of the treatise is provided with a detailed commentary.
