THE TRANSFIGURATION POWER OF PRAYER
(POETIC NOVEL BY V. A. ZHUKOVSKY CAPTAIN BОPP, 1843)

In the story V. A. Zhukovsky consider the power of faith that can change people. The hero of poetic story Bopp is the captain of the ship, evil and depraved person, the offender and the blasphemer, hated by his team that is ready to kill him. The main character gets a possibility of salvation through the gospel of repentance and prayer. Inner transfiguration having been occurred with the captain had become possible by a sophisticated internal spiritual work, the power of aspiration to God, his own personalitie᾿s reflection and leaving himself into the hands of God. This way is seen by the author as the only possible, but the main thing here is the fact that it is possible. The culmination of the story is the captain᾿s vision of the crucified Christ. And the hero after this vision is not afraid to die, because it becomes clear that he has been forgiven. In the story, on the one hand, the death of a man is presented, but the main thing is not death itself, but rather the new state that enabled the hero to find peace. For Zhukovsky worldly(temporal) life is a preparation for eternal life. The story gives everybody the hope and approves the possibility of salvation
