The article criticizes the point of view according to which the growth of the social layer of “redundant people” is inevitable due to automation of production and robotization. It is shown that human labor in itself does not become objectively unnecessary or useless. Redundant people are a consequence of capitalism, and not of science and technology. The author substantiates the proposition that, for a socialist society aimed at developing the personality of each, the scenario of the depreciation of human labor is unlikely.
