Russian journal - Standpoint of the week
issue #28(42), December 14, 2009
The theme of this issue is “The China syndrome of Russian modernization.”
In Russia, China has become a symbol of successful modernization: a symbol but, unfortunately, not the subject of a profound discussion about the suitability of the Chinese experience for Russia.
This particular discussion gets underway in the debate – between Mikhail Delyagin, the Director of the Institute of Problems of Globalisation and Evgeny Yasin, Research Supervisor at the Higher School of Economics, Vladislav Inozemtsev, a well-known Russian economist and the Director of the Centre for Post-Industrial Society Research; Lev Yakobson, First Vice Rector and Head of the Department of the Higher School of Economics; Mikhail Remizov, the President of the National Strategy Institute. In addition, a number of renowned Western experts also joined in this dialogue, including Clyde Prestowitz, President of the Economic Strategy Institute and former advisor to the US Secretary of Commerce; Zachary Karabell, President of the research consulting company ‘River Twice Research’; Oded Shenkar, a Professor of Management and Human Resources at the University of Ohio, and author of the international political and economic bestseller The Chinese Century: The Rising Chinese Economy and Its Impact on the Global Economy, the Balance of Power, and Your Job.
