The article deals with the problem of correlation between communication modes and the category of creativity. It assumes that creativity as an anthropological category is based on the mode of play communication. The author describes concept of play which is understood as interpretation, epistemic modality of communication, expressed in a process of communication. The mode of play can be expressed by means of various mechanisms like parody, irony, cosmism, laugh, satire, humor, etc., based on the idea of recoding, reevaluating, rethinking, creativity, novelty, i.e. on the idea of cultural creativity. The article analyzes various definitions of the concept of play, investigates its communicative mechanisms, its nature and interpretations in various cultural paradigms. The author describes linguistic characteristics of play and playing genres of literature, including such literary forms of discourse as: travesty, burlesque, parody, satire, comedy, tragical comedy, anecdotes, nonsense poetry, limerick, etc.
